Region: Catalunya
In 1999 this project was launched by the partnership between the Puig- Romeu family lead by Salvador Puig and the consultant oenologist Jordi Gili. Their aim is to produce terroir-driven wines from La Llacuna, confident that this area has excellent attributes for growing vines. Their first harvest was in 2001.
They experiment with varieties that haven’t traditionally been planted in this area together with those that have a long local tradition. Selecting each plot according to climate, orientation and soil type, choosing the most appropriate plot for each variety. They all share low production levels, soils with low organic content, high-density plantations (between 4500-5000 vines per hectare). The altitude of the vineyards is between 650-800 meters above sea level.
Their philosophy is to make small quantities of select products, respecting the environment and extracting the maximum expression of the terroir.
