BODEGAS CONDE - NEO

Regions: Castilla y León and Catalunya.

A very young winery with a young ‘wine & rock music’ managing team. They make modern, consumer friendly, quality wines in various DO’s, focusing on terroir and varietal tipicity. Bodegas Conde created a global project called MONDO NEO, set up to promote wine culture and cooperate with, or initiate social and development projects in needy areas of the world. By organizing concerts, theatrical shows, exhibitions and all sorts of cultural activities, they aim to bring wine closer to people and dispel the elitist aura which tends to surround us, demonstrating that the most attractive option is to make wine a means of communication.

Isaac Fernández Montaña has established himself as an expert oenologist. Almost anyone is capable of making wine, but only a few can give their creations personality. For Isaac his wines are like his children, he gives them the best of himself.

BODEGAS CAMPOS REALES

Region: Castilla La Mancha

Founded in 1956, with the union of 4 DO La Mancha bodegas. These facilities are situated in “El Provencio” in a region with a very long tradition of winemaking, where the passage of time has helped to build and increase the local know-how and skills.

La Mancha is a sea of old ‘en vaso’, as they say in Spanish, or ‘bush trained’ vines. There are more vines planted in La Mancha than in all of Australia… and they are mostly dry farmed, and old, producing very low crops, naturally. This gives you a bit of insight into why we are able to enjoy such fantastic quality/price ratio in wines from this region in particular.

Bodegas CAMPOS REALES prides itself in retaining the wine related traditions of La Mancha. But… the state-of-the-art technology they have installed enables them to carry out age-old processes more efficiently and with greater control. Embracing the best of the old, and the best of the new!

BODEGAS GARNACHA ALTO ALBERCHE

Region: Castilla y León.

Navaluenga, Alto Alberche

Navaluenga, Alto Alberche

Wine history in the area dates back to the 13th Century, when Cistercian monks arrive from Valladolid bringing with them people to work the lands and cultivate vines. In 2002, eleven friends from the town of Navaluenga, in the province of Ávila, gathered together with the common idea of preserving the old and beautiful vineyards of the Alto Alberche Valley, about 2 hours west of Madrid. They began making wine in an artisan way and by 2005 they started building their own winery. Their goal is to make wines reflecting the personality of the different Garnacha “pagos” in the Valley.

Soils are Granitic Sands and vines are planted from 2,300 to 3,400 feet high. The youngest vines are 40 years old, but most are over 60. Recently, the bodega has become associated with Australian born local winemaker Daniel V. Ramos, an expert in extracting the best that Garnacha has to offer. Daniel is now responsible for the elaboration of their wines. In order to preserve the essence of the terroir, all their wines are unfiltered.

BODEGAS GIL LUNA

Region: Castilla y León

In Bodegas Gil Luna, Wences Gil offers an alternative to the traditional wine making methods of Toro, both in terms of the wine and the viticulture. It was founded on the philosophy that the main principals of winemaking should embrace a maximum respect for the environment, the selection of the best grapes, and the production of ‘Vinos de Pago’ wines, wines of terroir that reflect the characteristics of the native soil from which they are made. All the grapes come from ‘Pago Santa Olalla’ in the Duero Valley, an area where, due to its sandy soils, phylloxera never attacked the vines.

With the arrival of electricity, they introduced innovative mechanical equipment, modifying the traditional processes which had until then, been exercised manually.

Bodegas Guardiola has always focused on “the quality of their wines”, something that has been transferred from father to son, together with the secret of good winemaking and the love and care for their land and environment. CELLER PUIG ROMEU

(Not available in California)
Region: Catalunya

In 1999 this project was launched by the partnership between the Puig- Romeu family lead by Salvador Puig and the consultant oenologist Jordi Gili. Their aim is to produce terroir-driven wines from La Llacuna, in the Upper Penedès, confident that this area has excellent attributes for growing vines. Their first harvest was in 2001.
They are experimenting with varieties that haven’t traditionally been planted in the area together with those that have a long local tradition. Selecting each plot according to climate, orientation and soil type, choosing the most appropriate plot for each variety. They all share low production levels, soils with low organic content, high-density plantations (between 4500-5000 vines per hectare). The altitude of the vineyards is between 650-800 meters above sea level. Their philosophy is to make small quantities of select products, respecting the environment and extracting the maximum expression of the terroir.

ZERBEROS - PAGOS GALAYOS

Region: Castilla y León.

Zerberos '08 Pizarra, fermenting

Zerberos '08 Pizarra, fermenting

A garagiste wine by Australian born, Spanish rising-star winemaker, Daniel V.Ramos. Made from very old (85 + yr) Garnacha vines. His vineyards are located on the South-facing slopes of the Cebreros Mountain at altitudes reaching over 3,000 feet. This tiny little mountainside is one of Spain’s forgotten gems located 1.5 hrs west of Madrid in the Gredos mountain range. There are two types of soils in Cebreros, Granite Sand and Schist Slates.

Daniel’s wines are like no other Garnachas, concentrated, full of bright ripe fruit & aromas of the wild mountain herbs of Cebreros, with great structure, amazing acidity and length. Zerberos is an extremely well balanced, high mountain wine made to age. Zerberos is a play on the name Cebreros and there are references to the name as the gates to hell… as the mountainside of Cebreros gets roasting hot during summer days, then temperatures drop drastically in the evenings, with a chill wind running through the scattered mountain vineyards.

This Wine has Limited Production!
