This July 1^st, Javier is going to present a masterclass and tasting of 6 great Garnachas from D.O. Campo de Borja. The event, organized by The Wine Academy of Spain, will take place at 10am, at Ruth’s Chris Crystal City/Pentagon City in Washington DC.

The event will feature a video-conference connecting with Pancho Campo MW, who will be speaking live from the vineyards of Campo de Borja in northeastern Spain. Meanwhile, in Washington, the President of D.O. Campo de Borja as well as some of the producers will take part in the presentation.

Wendy and Javier have only recently visited the growing area of Campo de Borja and have had the opportunity of assessing these high quality Garnachas. They are very positive about the success of this event, and in promoting Campo de Borja wines in the North American market.

Vinoble 2010 is a truly spectacular Sweet, Fortified and Noble Wine fair, that takes place in the most romantic of environments in the heart of Jerez de la Frontera… ‘the Alcázar’. This ancient XI century Arab fortress features the Palacio de Villavecencio (from the Renaissance era) built next to an old Mosque and is surrounded by beautiful Arabic gardens. Where else in the World could you have the opportunity to taste such a wide variety of Noble Wines amongst such elements?  Imagine if you can, the air dripping with the essence of a Very Old Rare Amontillado, and notes of soft white petals and apricots steering you ever closer to a glass of the ever so seductive Tokaji Essencia…

It will be my first time attending this much buzzed about event, and I am both pleased and excited to announce that Javier and I have been asked by the event’s Commissar, Pancho Campo from The Wine Academy of Spain, to be in charge of the biennial ‘International Wine Competition-Vinoble 2010′. I have to say though, it was a tough choice knowing we had to give up judging it!! I guess we will really have to get our homework done on the floor and get to some serious Noble Wine Tasting afterward all the hard work is done!!

I hear that just outside the Vinoble wine grounds the area will be teaming with local culinary delights, and Chefs alike, all focusing on wine and food pairings, presenting plenty of ideas to bring home with you, and this show features professional guided tastings of some of the Worlds most famous wines… Sauternes, Sherries, Tokajis, Fondillons, Sweet Cavas… very impressive!

So, get yourself to Spain from May 30th to June 2nd this year and belly up to the Sherry bar for some serious cultural enlightenment!

Society of Wine Educator’s Conference 2009

Sacramento, California will host the SWE conference this year, on July 29th, 30th, and 31st

New Spain Wines‘ Javier Arauz and Wendy Vallaster will be presenting a 3 hour Sherry Seminar on July 30th at the conference, with the support of many of the Sherry Producers of DO Jerez, Xérès, Sherry, and the Consejo Regulador.

This course will cover all of the Sherry styles, and grape varieties, with a comprehensive tasting component.

Javier and Wendy will be attending the full conference, should any Importers and/or Distributors be interested in chatting about the possibility of working with our New Spain Wine Export Portfolio, and our Producer/Partners.

Wendy Vallaster of New Spain Wines is one of 5 finalists in the 2009 International Wine Woman Awards Competition

This Global competition takes place in Paris, May 11th, and 12th this year. Wish her luck, she is up against some pretty fierce competition!!

Fierce competition indeed! Congratulations are in order to Isabelle Legeron, an MW student poised to give her dissertation, and Wine TV personality, who is the 2009 Wine Woman Award winner! And rightly so, as she is brilliant. Isabelle is of French origin, but has been living and working in England for some time now.

The event was lovely, a little nerve wracking, but fun… and with a fantastic group of Motivated, Educated, Innovative Women, all of whom should be proud candidates as the chosen 5 out of the many global contestants who entered the contest this year.
